Meet the Matriach
Abigail Eebudola was born on the 28th of October, 1909 to Chief Kelani Afuwape and Madam Banjoko Afuwape in Oba village, Egba Kingdom.
Her father was a successful produce farmer who owned vast cocoa and kola nut plantations. He also owned a forest of palm trees and founded a successful palm oil manufacturing business. Her mother was a trader involved in marketing the produce from her husband’s farm.
The family relocated to Balufe compound.
The Abigail Eebudola Bakare Foundation (AEB Foundation) was established to honour the memory and preserve the legacy of Mama Abigail Eebudola Bakare (October 28, 1909 – May 5, 2018). In line with Mama’s core interests and life’s work, the priority areas of the Foundation include: Enterprise, Culture, Values and Education.
Provide seed funding and business development support to indigent entrepreneurs
Invest in the cultural ecosystem of Nigeria to stimulate and generate
value from creative and
cultural pursuits
Address the erosion of positive values via a multi-strategy approach, including school tours and competitive initiatives
Establish a scholarship fund for promising students from low-income families
(primary to tertiary)
The Annual Eebudola Bakare Memorial Essay Writing Competition is instituted to celebrate the inspiring life of Mama Abigail Eebudola Bakare, the Matriach of the iconic Serving Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor ‘Tunde Bakare.
